The International Women’s Day theme poses “a world where difference is valued and celebrated.” This part of the 2024 theme 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress' is exciting.
Won’t it be great when we arrive to a place in history when this isn’t even a topic of discussion because it’s just assumed.
You might find some of these PRACTICAL tips interesting for weaving inclusion through your daily both personally & professionally (care of the extraordinary panel from the event I attended today)
〰️ We teach others how to treat us. Sharing home responsibilities with everyone living in the home is inclusion & equality!
〰️ Knowledge & certainty can be an illusion. Through inclusivity & diversity we can harness shared wisdom. This makes space for leading with a broader lense, a more open lense.
〰️ Request empowerment & support where you need to from those around you both personally & professionally. People in your corner want to help you move mountains so show them how because they just might not know.
〰️Inclusion for women doesn’t need to be a carbon copy of what men have. Carve & curate the way for women where you can to move forward in a way that is BESPOKE. This approach will fit best.
〰️ Check your language eg: “Hi guys” “we need man power” Often without realising it, we are removing the visibility of women through our language.
〰️ Where possible, check your own bias’s before responding in some situations. Consider what a situation could be like for someone else.
〰️ Keep an open dialogue about inclusivity. Not knowing is ok and being honest about that is ok!
〰️ The most common place that women disclose domestic & family violence is in the workplace. Walk alongside them “what can I do to support you” questions.
〰️ Model the behaviour that you want your children to learn.
〰️ Eternal optimism! Stay in the HOPE space for conversations around inclusivity. This will sustain us.
We all have a circle of influence. We can all be advocates and champions for inclusivity x
