Let’s talk about rocking out even when stressed.
Its is a great goal to have and it can be achieved if we can avoid compounded stress. Let’s dive straight into 6 ways to stay on top of daily grind stresses
-
Reduce decision making.
Every time you decide something, whether it's what to wear or which restaurant to go to, you chip away at your mental battery little by little. This is called decision fatigue. If we don’t manage this battery well throughout the day, we might find that 5 p.m. hits and we’re wiped out, physically and mentally.
How? Pick out tomorrow’s clothes, figure out the train route before leaving the house, stick to a loose rotation of meals… See the pattern?
-
Nourish your body with sleep and nutrition.
Nutritious food and substantial rest are integral to maintaining a healthy stress level; without these two components, we are unequipped. Sleep and sleep deprivation are directly linked to stress levels and can harm our physical health.
-
Adopt a “done is better than perfect” attitude.
Dear perfectionists,
This one if for you. There could be space to accept a happy medium. Too often, the fear of not performing perfectly can lead us to paralysis or burnout, which adds undue stress to our systems. The quest for perfection is unattainable and never worth our mental or physical health.
-
Practice mindfulness.
Mindfulness practices, including meditation and breathwork, have soooo many benefits for stress intervention. Mindfulness target our central nervous system — the part theightened when we’re stressed.
-
Establish a routine.
A predictable routine helps to take the guesswork and uncertainty out of things and reduces decision fatigue. For example, if you know you wake up at 5 a.m. every day, turn on the coffee pot, and sit down to journal for a bit, you don’t have to think about it, and you don’t begin draining your battery right away. Morning and evening routines to ease you in and out of your day can be enormously beneficial.
-
Practice delegating or saying “No”.
Can anything in your “to do” basket be outsourced? Can someone else do it just as well as you? Can your future self do it? A family member? Delegate it. Saying “no” strips back obligations and also preserves your time and energy. Protect your energy fiercely, and do not agree to something that doesn’t align with your top priorities, goals, and values. It’s ok!
